Difference between LED and LCD

8 Difference between LED and LCD

LED and LCD are the two display technologies which are used these days everywhere. LED is stands for light emitting diode and LCD stands for liquid crystal display. LED is semiconductor light emitting diode which produce light when current passed through them. Many of us get confused in the LED and LCD we think both are same. But there are many differences between LED and LCD.

These days displays are everywhere. So, it’s very important to understand the concept of LED and LCD. In this article we will discuss in detail about LED and LCD and differences between LED and LCD. So let’s began the discussion.

LED vs LCD

Sr. No. LED LCD
1 Light Emitting Diode. Liquid Crystal Display.
2 Good response time Slower response then LED.

3 Power consumption is high Less powers is consumption
4 High Cost Low Cost
5 Good picture quality Low picture quality then Led
6 Contains good contrast and black levels controls. Don’t have good controls on contract and black levels like LED.

7 Wider view angle View angle reduces 30 degree from center.

8 No Mercury is used Mercury is used

LED

LED stands for the light emitting diode which produce a clear and sharper image then the LCD. In LED semiconductor light emitting diode are used. LED is the advancement of the LCD technology. In the LED fluorescent tube is replaced with the backlight’s technology. Wider view is available in the LED display. Due to the RGB pattern in LED it provides better accuracy. The diodes are places on around the edges or behind the screen. LED are very efficient and these are very thin then the LCD.

Advantages of LED

  1. LED Is very durable so it has long life.
  2. Low maintenance
  3. Don’t produces heat
  4. Very efficient.

Disadvantage of LED

  1. Restricted view angle.
  2. High cost

LCD liquid Cristal Display

LCD does not deliver light because it’s passive in nature. In LCD fluorescent tubes are used to lighten the image. Due to fluorescent lights It doesn’t prove much clear image. Color accuracy is almost good same as LED. Wide angle is reduced to 30 degree from the center. There is not good contrast and black level in LCD.

LCD required Mercury which is harmful to the environment. LCD uses glass electrode and liquid Cristal.

Difference between LED and LCD

Differencee Between LED and LCD

  1. LED have a very good response time. LCD has slower response then LED.
  2. Power consumption of LED is high. Less powers is consumed by LCD.
  3. LED’s cost is higher then LCD.
  4. LED provides good picture quality. LCD also deliver but less then LED
  5. LED contains good contrast and black levels controls. LCD don’t have good controls on contract and black levels like LED.
  6. Wider view angle is provided by the LED. In LCD wider view angle reduces 30 degree from center.
  7. LED are available as big screens up to 90 inches. LCD are available in range 13 to 57 inches.
  8. Mercury is used in LCD which is harmful for environmental. LED don’t use mercury.

Conclusion

LED and LCD are very important these days. Everywhere both these technologies are used for display. LED is just update of LCD. LED is very efficient. LED provides good service then LCD. Some days back LCD was used everywhere but LED reduces the use of LCD. Both LED and inch have their advantage and disadvantage which are described in the article.
